Services available in this clinic

About the clinic

CMI Mirabel offers a variety of services in different disciplines, including physiotherapy, occupational therapy, mental health occupational therapy, massage therapy, acupuncture and therapeutic yoga.

The collaboration of the CMI team with physicians is very important and helps to maximize the effectiveness of treatment plans.

Physiotherapy

Concussion, herniated disc or sprain: what kind of conditions can we treat with physiotherapy?

Physiotherapy is for everyone. Whether you have been injured (car or work accident) or suffer from acute or chronic pain for no apparent reason, you can seek physiotherapy.

For example, if your sciatic nerve is painful because of a herniated disc, or if you have recurring headaches because of a concussion, we can take care of you and provide relief.

If you are currently experiencing pain, make an appointment directly with one of our physiotherapists.

What is the physiotherapy evaluation process like?

The first step in the physiotherapy process at our Mirabel clinic, as in all CMI clinics, is the assessment.

The purpose is to determine the patient’s condition and the appropriate treatment plan. Your physiotherapist will ask you specific questions to understand the history of your condition, which may be the result of an accident or pain.

The assessment will help to identify the best techniques to treat your condition. We use techniques such as manual therapy, taping, myofascial release or massage therapy.

A closer look at manual therapy

Manual therapy is one of the main techniques used in physiotherapy. It aims to restore mobility and ease of movement. This is done by mobilizing the joints.

Two techniques are particularly used in manual therapy, namely manipulation and mobilization.

Manual therapy can be used to treat many conditions including muscular tension or weakness, or joint locking.

Please note that manual therapy work has to be combined with exercises at home. They must be practiced rigorously for the physiotherapy treatment to be really effective.

Occupational therapy

What happens during an occupational therapy evaluation?

The first occupational therapy session at our clinic in Mirabel is always devoted to the evaluation of your symptoms and condition. It is a discussion with the occupational therapist.

He or she will ask you questions about your daily functioning to understand how your injury is affecting your life.

The next step in the session will be to conduct tests. These will help establish a treatment plan, which can be adapted as the treatment sessions progress.

Mental health occupational therapy

Why should you seek mental health occupational therapy?

Occupational therapy also treats mental health disorders. The occupational therapist’s role is to understand the impact of your psychological condition on your daily life, so that he or she can help you restore your usual quality of life.

Mental health problems may or may not be the result of a specific event that has disrupted your daily life. For example, a car accident can cause physical and mental injuries. If driving has become difficult, consulting a mental health occupational therapist is recommended.

Please remember that it is never too early or too late to ask for help. Signs of exhaustion, fatigue, decreased energy levels or stress are all good reasons to seek mental health occupational therapy treatment. Learning to identify these signs will be part of the work.

Part of the intervention involves establishing a relationship of trust with the patient. Topics covered include symptom management and behavioural reactivation.

Massage therapy

Why should you see a massage therapist?

This form of natural therapy is particularly effective in the treatment of conditions like muscular pain, sports injuries, myofascial pain and stress.

The benefits of massage therapy are well known: it improves sleep quality, relieves muscular tension or prepares the body for physical effort.

If you are currently experiencing pain, make an appointment directly with one of our massage therapists.

Please note that our massage therapy sessions are not available in packages. Most group insurance plans cover massage therapy.

Massage techniques used at CMI Mirabel

Several techniques can be used during massage therapy sessions. While Swedish massage is the most common, our massage therapists also practice myofascial release.

In a Swedish massage, your massage therapist will perform dynamic movements to relax the muscles. With myofascial release, he or she will use slow movements.

Acupuncture

Understanding acupuncture, a complementary medicine

Like massage therapy, acupuncture is considered a complementary medicine. Acupuncture is a component of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) based on the belief that there are energy channels in and around the body and mind. What is its goal? To maintain the balance of this energy and the harmony of the body.

To do this, our acupuncturists use needles, but also suction cups, laser or massage.

Acupuncture has been shown to help with many conditions including ENT disorders, general disorders and muscular pain.

Therapeutic yoga

Why and how should you do therapeutic yoga?

As with all of our services, the first session in yoga therapy consists of an evaluation. This will help define your goals.

Therapeutic yoga uses a variety of postures, with or without equipment. This approach also includes breathing, stretching, relaxation and meditation techniques.

Terapeutic yoga can help to manage stress and anxiety, facilitate deep breathing or help cultivate mindfulness. It can have a positive impact on both physical and mental health.

Online yoga classes via Zoom

Therapeutic yoga sessions are tailored to the individual’s profile. They can be offered through teleconsultation. These sessions are given through Zoom.
