About the clinic

The CMI Longueuil Physiotherapy Clinic is located behind the Pierre Boucher Hospital. We combine various disciplines, such as physiotherapy, occupational therapy and even hand therapy.

The collaboration of the CMI team with physicians is very important and helps to maximize the effectiveness of treatment plans.

Physiotherapy

What do we do at the CMI Longueuil Physiotherapy Center (South Shore)?

Our CMI physiotherapy center in Longueuil serves no specific type of patient. It is open to everyone, in direct access. This means that you do not need a prescription to visit.

It is the only clinic on the south shore to provide you with a follow-up from physicians with an expertise in musculoskeletal health, working with a team of highly experienced therapists.

We treat patients suffering from work-related injuries as well as patients with chronic pain.

Our physiotherapists have several missions: treating injuries, managing and reducing pain, and educating and teaching.

To do this, they use different approaches and techniques including manual therapy, the McKenzie approach, exercises and electrotherapy.

Physiotherapy treats different systems of the body. At CMI Clinics, we focus on musculoskeletal conditions.

A closer look at pediatric, sports and vestibular physiotherapy

As mentioned above, physiotherapy treats many conditions. Our physiotherapists also deal with very specific health problems.

– Sports physiotherapy

Many athletes use physiotherapy. In our clinic, we see all types of athletes, from high-level athletes to recreational ones. Indeed, both seasoned athletes and beginners can suffer from injuries.

And since prevention is also at the heart of our practice, we also see patients who want to start a new sport. We guide them towards a safe and sustainable practice with advice and specific exercises.

– Pediatric physiotherapy

At CMI Longueuil, we focus on pediatric physiotherapy. Contrary to some beliefs, pediatric physiotherapy also treats infants. Our patients include children aged 0 to 17 years old.

The role of the physiotherapist is to detect potential motor problems, but also to help prevent other health problems through prevention.

– Vestibular physiotherapy

A physiotherapist can greatly help you if you suffer from vertigo, mainly benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) and vertigo associated with an inner ear infection.

If you feel like everything is spinning around you, you are probably suffering from vertigo. After an assessment to identify the cause of your symptoms, the physiotherapist will suggest an intervention plan specific to your problem.

Occupational therapy

Who should visit the occupational therapy rehabilitation center?

The CMI Clinic’s occupational therapy rehabilitation center is for anyone whose everyday tasks are affected by an injury.

Our patients at the Clinic range in age from seniors to college students.

The goal of our occupational therapists is to restore your functional abilities so that you can get back to an optimal quality of life. To achieve this, occupational therapy uses a variety of techniques, but always puts activity at the center of the treatment plan.

The goal is to help patients rebuild their self-confidence and gradually regain their abilities.

Mental health occupational therapy: what is it?

The role of occupational therapists in mental health is to identify the symptoms (fatigue, loss of motivation and concentration, sadness, sleep problems) and the causes of the patient’s difficulties.

In short, mental health occupational therapy is intended for anyone whose psychological condition interferes with their daily life.

At CMI Longueuil, we treat patients suffering from various conditions such as depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, as well as mood or anxiety disorders.

Our goal is to allow patients to recover their abilities, both emotional and physical, and a safe return to work, if it had been interrupted.

If you are experiencing difficulties in your daily life, do not be afraid to talk to your doctor so that he or she can refer you to an occupational therapist if necessary.

Hand therapy

Who is this specialty for?

This specialization of occupational therapy is for anyone with a condition affecting the upper limb or the hand. We treat patients who have undergone surgery (amputation, Dupuytren’s hand), as well as patients suffering from chronic pain.

Our hand therapists‘ role is to increase and restore mobility in the patient’s hand or wrist.

At CMI Longueuil, we have some of the rare Certified Hand Therapists in Quebec.

They also work in close collaboration with plastic surgeons.

Osteopathy

What is it?

In Quebec, osteopathy is an alternative medicine. Its objective is to reduce the patient’s functional disorders.

At CMI Longueuil, we treat digestive system disorders (constipation, gastric reflux), urogenital disorders (painful periods, bladder problems), and nervous system disorders (recurring headaches), to name a few.

An osteopath can also help you with various musculoskeletal problems such as back and neck pain.

This practice is essentially based on manual techniques: muscle energy, fascia technique or direct mobilization.

The role of osteopathy for pregnant women

Just like physiotherapy, osteopathy is recommended for pregnant women. Through its gentle manual techniques, this practice can help relieve lower back pain due to the shift in the center of gravity and the various physical changes involved in pregnancy.

It can also help with proper positioning of the baby through mobilization of the joints and bones.

Kinesiology

What are the objectives of kinesiology?

A kinesiologist works with his or her patient to achieve two main goals: improving their physical activity and helping them adopt healthy lifestyle habits. Kinesiology is also effective for injury recovery and rehabilitation.

So, whether you want to be well prepared for the next Montreal Marathon or correct a bad posture from your daily life, kinesiology is for you.

What is the training program based on?

With an assessment performed during the first session, our kinesiologists will define a training program adapted to your needs and your physical condition.

This assessment includes a muscular and articular evaluation, but our kinesiologists also try to understand your functioning and the importance of physical activity in your life.

Your kinesiologist will then have all the necessary information to help you achieve your goals, whatever they may be.

Acupuncture

A closer look at this practice of Traditional Chinese Medicine

Traditional Chinese Medicine is based on the belief in the existence of a vital energy, the Qi. So, when this energy is disturbed, acupuncture works to restore the harmony of the body as a whole.

Some of the disorders that acupuncture treats are fatigue, stress, anxiety, as well as ENT disorders or muscular pains (sciatica, thoracic or abdominal region), or circulatory disorders (dizziness, water retention).

We often reduce acupuncture to the use of needles. However, other techniques are used such as cupping, massage or heat.

The choice of using one technique or another depends on the person’s age and condition.

Massage therapy

What are the benefits of different types of massages at CMI Longueuil?

The positive effects of massage therapy on certain conditions like fatigue, muscular disorders, mental health and chronic pain are well known.

At CMI Longueuil, our massage therapists provide different types of massage. The most commonly used is Swedish massage, which is performed with dynamic movements. It is used for both therapeutic and relaxation massages or for pregnant women.

It helps to relieve muscular pain, to reduce the effects of stress or to improve blood circulation.

The other technique that we use in massage therapy is myofascial release, which, unlike Swedish massage, is performed with slow movements. It is specifically designed for people suffering from chronic pain. It brings a feeling of lightness.

Therapeutic Yoga

Why should you take a therapeutic yoga class?

Therapeutic yoga is designed to help you develop skills to relax, relieve stress and prevent potential tension in your body.

In therapeutic yoga, you play an active role in improving your well-being. This approach can be used to achieve several goals such as managing sub-acute or chronic pain, addressing stress and anxiety, or learning deep breathing.

To do this, your yoga teacher will teach you postures, but also meditation or breathing exercises.

Therapeutic yoga classes are given in person at our CMI clinic in Longueuil, but can also be given on Zoom if you are unable to attend.

Private Trainer

A personal and private trainer? What goals can you achieve?

At CMI Longueuil, optimizing your abilities through physical activity is our priority. This is why we offer consultations with a private trainer to help you achieve the goals you have set for yourself.

These can be anything from weight loss to sports performance, fitness or muscle hypertrophy.

In addition to their role as coach and motivator, your private trainer will ensure that the process runs smoothly and safely.

He or she will also provide you with advice to help you adopt and maintain a healthy lifestyle over time.

Medical visits are covered by the RAMQ.
